Welcome readers! We have another poem highlight for this week’s Poetato Wednesday. Things have been a little slow, so thank you for bearing with us. Today is a piece from a sleeper —
. He had this to say about himself:I'm a poet. I live in Cornwall in the UK. I started out writing poetry as song lyrics (I was a teenage metalhead) and it just evolved from there. I write everyday, but because I try to but because it just comes out I guess. I'm inspired by loads of stuff - films, books, music, personal experience
Go check out more of his work on his page where he frequently posts poems that feel all encompassing. You can find more here: The Drafting Dreamer
Today’s feature was dropped on April 5th, 2025. It deals with the constant waves of what we feel, experience, dwell on — and gives it a melancholic hope. Very Poe-esque.
Song of the Unraven
As the ripples of temptation Seduce the shore Quoth the brazen 'Nevermore'Let the backwash of abandonment Retreat from the shore Quoth the forsaken 'Nevermore'As the siren song of innocence Serenades the shore Quoth the taken 'Nevermore'Let the cold comfort of contrition Caress the shore Quoth the heartbreaking 'Nevermore'As the misremembered endeavours Malign the shore Quoth the mistaken 'Nevermore'Let the dawn of tomorrowland Reclaim the shore Quoth the invading 'Nevermore'
Below are some questions The Drafting Dreamer answered from the collective
What were you inspirations writing this piece?
I wanted to get published by the Poe-tato as I like the play on words between Edgar Allan Poe and Potatoes. I have always loved The Raven as a piece and thought I could use it as a jumping off point to create something a little atmospheric in a Poe style.
Is there anything you hope the reader takes away from this?
Hopefully, that they'll be inspired to use Poe to write a piece of their own.
What an excellent piece of poetry that I feel captures what Poe is all about. From the imagery, to the cadence, and the overall subject matter gave me that dark melancholic vibe mixed with the absolute beauty of living.
The emotions, the turmoil is like the waves. Vast as the sea and just as complicated — as the waves could change in an instant.
I have read a few of The Dreamer’s posts and his poetry is always expertly written. It is always a read full of inspiration and awe. Poetry that transcends.
What a great piece for the poe-tato collective and a showcase of amazing writing and emulation, of course, mixed with the power that the Dreamer has.
But dear reader, what are your thoughts on this piece? We would love to know down below in the comments:
